Java Eiland

The eastern docklands can be just as charming as the center part of the city…One of my favorite places to hang out in the east is is Java-Eiland which is right by my house and never ceases to amaze me.

There is lot of architecture and history there, mixing maritime heritage with modern architecture. You can find many cool interior design shops and waterside cafes and even a little green area to sit during those sunny summer days. You can take a nice stroll, going through all the nice “designy” bridges and watching people go about their lives in their laid-back manner.

So, let’s take a walk around Java-Eiland together…

The main way to get to Java Eiland is to go through the Jan Schaefer bridge (or Java Bridge). The bridge is amazingly smooth and modern, and it can also be removed for when the festivities start for SAIL.

This area in the picture above is called Bogortuin ;) and it’s one of my favorite spots to relax in Amsterdam… You can swim here and lay down on the grass, have a picknick, you name it.
